Casa Modesta : Grandpa’s House on the Algarve

Casa Modesta overlooks the lagoon in the Ria Formosa nature park.

It is a boutique hotel for those looking for an authentic, sustainable and luxurious experience in the Algarve. It is run by the grandchildren of an ‘old sea dog’ who have transformed his family home using locally sourced and sustainable materials. It is now a stylish eco-retreat boasting its own organic vegetable garden. As a partner of the Foundation for Environmental Education, the hotel encourages guests to practise sustainable tourism and to explore the surrounding Nature Reserve and beaches.

The hotel offers traditional cooking courses, using local produce, pottery courses and spa treatments with extracts from local almonds, olives, and fleur de sel (a rare form of salt).

Casa Modesta has won Best Green Hotel in the Condé Nast Johansens Awards in 2017.
