Australia's family-friendly hidden gems revealed in Out & About with Kids winter 2020 issue

Australia's most amazing lesser-visited destinations, attractions and experiences are showcased in the winter issue of family travel magazine Out & About with Kids, out this week. The cover story, States of Wonder, highlights the best hidden gems in each state and territory. Out & About with Kids editor Angela Saurine said with international travel restrictions still in place thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, and different rules when it comes to borders across the country, now is a great time to plan a holiday exploring your own backyard. “If we are going to be stuck in our own country for a while, how lucky are we to live in Australia?” she said. “There are so many incredible places to see. Whether you are only allowed to travel within your own borders, or can venture further afield, we hope this gives you lots of ideas for your next family holiday. They may be places you've never heard of, or places you know about but haven't got around to visiting yet. Don't wait till you're a grey nomad – go there now and enjoy the trip with your kids!”

The issue also includes a feature about post-pandemic travel trends, a story reflecting on how the coronavirus gave families the chance to slow down and spend quality time together during lockdown, and a new deals section, introduced because of all the great offers around at the moment. Other domestic destinations covered include Paradise Resort Gold Coast, Elements of Byron at Byron Bay on NSW's north coast, and a road trip in Tasmania.

But with Australians continuing to dream about overseas holidays, international destinations have not been forgotten. The issue also features stories about countries that have done well in the fight against coronavirus and been touted as frontrunners for a possible 'travel bubble' with Australia. Auckland-based travel writer Elisabeth Easther and her son Theo share their favourite New Zealand travel experiences, while the Cook Islands, Thailand and Vietnam are also featured, as well as a story about the adventure of a lifetime in Lapland in Finland – a bucket list destination families are likely to plan years in advance.

Other highlights include interviews with Weekend Today and Australian Ninja Warrior host Rebecca Maddern and Club Med general manager – Pacific Rachael Harding about their favourite family travel experiences.
