Following the news that the German government and 16 Länder states have agreed that exhibitions and tradefairs should not be classified as ‘mass gatherings’ and in principle could resume under strict health and safety controlled conditions, the state of North Rhine-Wesphalia (NRW) is leading the way and has said it wants to allow tradefairs and congresses to start from 30 May.

The state of NRW includes the mighty Kölnmesse on its territory.

The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, 6 May, reported the state government announcement: “With a target date from 30 May , 2020, tradefairs and congresses with protection concepts and with restrictions on the number of visitors and participants should take place again”.

Other large events, on the other hand, are still to be prohibited until 31 August, 2020.
