Passing on the unique agriculture of Taketomi Island
Taketomi Island in Okinawa, Japan is known as “the island of performing arts”. Since its opening in 2012, HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island has been operating and learning the history and traditions of the island inhabitants.

Each year, around 20 traditional festivals are held in which the songs and dances represent agriculture or prayers for a good harvest. Taketomi Island locals are known to lead self-sufficient lives and the unique “crop field culture” was derived from their wisdom and knowledge of the environment.

Sadly, the number of people involved in agricultural projects have decreased. In order to pass on the agricultural knowledge that is unique to the island, an employee of HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island has been leading the “Field Project”.

Relaxation Defined by Balinese Spirituality at HOSHINOYA Bali
HOSHINOYA Bali was the first Hoshino Resorts property to be constructed overseas. It opened in 2017 with its design drawing inspiration from Balinese Hinduism.

The presence of the sacred river is vital to the property which was designed by Rie Azuma who spent time researching Balinese culture by visiting Hindu temples and traditional Balinese homes and villages.

Inspired by the people she met and the discoveries she made; Azuma established a design that was authentically Balinese but also reflective of the HOSHINOYA aesthetic.
