Stay in Comfort & Style at The Fullerton Sydney Hotel

Recently I discovered luxury and heritage in the heart of the city at the recently newly launched The Fullerton Hotel Sydney, which was the former Westin Hotel.

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is a luxury five-star hotel steeped in character and elegance. It is located in the heart of Sydney’s financial and shopping district, housed in the historic former General Post Office building.

My check-in process was speedy from the welcoming stay and the fruit basket and snacks in the room made me feel very welcomed.

ROOMS
The Fullerton Hotel Sydney offers a choice of staying in either classically inspired rooms & suites in the heritage GPO building or in contemporary rooms in the high-rise tower set back behind the former GPO. There are superior, deluxe and supreme rooms and suites with a choice of twin or king beds.

I was fortunate to stay in a wonderful Tower King Premium Room high up on the 26 floor. I enjoyed magnificent elevated views through the large window over the City of Sydney and down on Martin Place and the old GPO clock tower.

My elegant room was beautifully furnished and featured a very comfortable deluxe bed with a range of comfy pillows to rest my head on. I had an enjoyable nights sleep in the quiet room and could not hear any traffic noise below.

The best part of my guest room was the large bathroom. It was a spacious area with a vanity basin and bathtub. There were a separate toilet and shower room that had a choice of an overhead rain shower or hand-held shower. The bathrooms spaciousness was enhanced by the glass wall between the bathroom and bedroom. As I was staying there by myself, I did not worry about closing the blind on the glass wall for privacy. The luxurious Atkinsons bathroom amenities were a delight to use in the shower, bath and vanity basin.  The large towels were fluffy and bathrobes and slippers were of good quality.

My guest room was fitted out with all the best entertainment and communication devices including a flat-screen TV placed on the wall in front of the bed, a Bluetooth Harmon Kardon speaker, complimentary unlimited wired and wireless high-speed broadband internet access and a tablet provided an interactive Tapendium digital concierge solution.

Refreshments were provided by a fully stocked minibar, a kettle with TWG teas and a Nespresso coffee machine with complimentary coffee capsules.

In addition to the rooms like the one I was in, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney also has spacious hotel suites, which offer dining areas, kitchenettes and other thoughtful perks.

RESTAURANTS & BARS
The Place Restaurant takes its name from the location of The Fullerton Hotel, in Martin Place Sydney. The Place is situated in the natural light-filled glass-roofed 6-storey atrium on level one. It has very comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the former GPO courtyard. As well as hotel guests, the general public are also welcome to dine in this central Sydney eatery.

The Place serves a delectable breakfast buffet which I enjoyed during my stay. It also offers flavourful à la carte specials for lunch and dinner featuring delicious Modern Australian cuisine and multi-cultural Southeast Asian signature dishes. For lunch, I enjoyed sampling the Taste of Asia Menu with its tasty curry and satay dishes. I also enjoyed my main course dish of Pan-seared Red Emperor fish. I was fortunate to meet the Chef, who explained that the best of local produce is sourced from NSW, including my own Hunter Valley area.

The Bar is located in the hotel lobby and serves a range of beers, wine, spirits and handcrafted cocktails. This is where the delectable High Afternoon Tea is served daily.

MEETINGS & EVENTS
The Fullerton Hotel has a range of versatile spaces including two spectacular ballrooms, conference centre and breakout areas. It has the perfect spaces to host an inspirational meeting, product launch, elegant social event or large gala. The Heritage Ballroom and Heritage Conference Centre provide flexible spaces for any type of function or event whether they are for just a few people or for many. The largest venue, The Grand Ballroom is the largest pillarless hotel ballroom in Sydney with a capacity of up to 1,000 people for a banquet.

EXECUTIVE CLUB
During my stay at The Fullerton Hotel, I enjoyed exclusive access to the Executive Club to enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea, evening canapes and cocktails. The intimate Executive Club is located on the 28th level and is open to 10pm each night. It has wonderful views through the panoramic windows over the city. It is not crowded and is a cosy space to relax in the comfortable lounges while reading the selection of newspapers, magazines and books available. I was impressed by the outstanding service of the lounge staff and the wide selection of complimentary hot and cold drinks, food items and desserts available.

FITNESS CENTRE
The Fullerton Hotel Sydney Fitness Center is open 24 hours and is located on level 6 of the Hotel. The Fitness Center provides cardiovascular equipment, free weights, treadmills and strength equipment. I had a brief session on the walking machine and the step machine. The Fitness Centre has showers, toilets, towels and drinking water for the use of guests.

HERITAGE TOURS
I was privileged to join in one of the complimentary tours of the heritage GPO building that The Fullerton Hotel is housed in. The 90-minute small group tours are offered on Fridays and Saturdays at 10am for hotel guests and at 11.45 for the general public.

The resident heritage guide uncovered stories, tales and legends of the iconic heritage-listed building that I have often walked past but not fully appreciated. Ther tour covers the exterior features of the GPO such as the intricate stonework, marble columns and carved heads above the archways.

The tour then proceeds inside to explore the clock tower, grand staircase, ballroom and other heritage features. The tours have proved to be very popular, so advance bookings are advised.

FULLERTON OPENING OFFER
When guests book directly with The Fullerton Hotel Sydney they can enjoy 25% off Best Available Rate, a reward of triple I Prefer Hotel Rewards points, and a dining credit of A$50 which can be redeemed at all dining outlets within the hotel. This promotion is valid until 17 March 2020.

LOCATION
The Fullerton is just ideally located in the Martin Place Mall between Pitt Street band George Street. It is 5 minutes’ walk from both Martin Place Railway Station and Wynyard Railway station and close to the new light rail service in George Street.

Many of Sydney's tourist attractions are closeby to The Fullerton Hotel Sydney. It is a 15 minutes’ walk from both Darling Harbor and Chinatown. The Museum of Contemporary Art and Sydney Opera House are each within 20 minutes’ walk.

It is just down from the Pitt Street Mall, with its department stores and many shops open late each night for shopping pleasure.

Summing up, I found the experienced staff offered me outstanding first class service from the moment I arrived. The amazing staff were very pleasant, polite and helpful and made my stay in Sydney most enjoyable.

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is indeed a home away from home for business travellers and holidaying families in the heart of Sydney.
