Hoi An ancient town |
This figure represents an increase of 17 per cent against the same period last year, fulfilling 55 per cent of the year’s plan, according to statistics released by the provincial department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
June alone saw the number of tourists surge by 19 per cent to 782,000, including over 367,000 foreign arrivals and by 11 percent to 415,000 domestic visitors.
The province earned an estimated tourism revenue of VND460 billion in June, an increase of 16 per cent in comparison to last year’s corresponding period.
Popular tourist attractions in Quang Nam include My Son Sanctuary, the ancient town of Hoi An, and Cu Lao Cham island. The majority of foreign visitors to the locality are from traditional markets such as the Republic of Korea, Japan, and China.
According to the provincial department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the five months leading up to June saw the province rake in VND2,760 billion in tourism revenue, an annual rise of 16.95 per cent.
In the remaining months of the year, the province plan to organize a wide range of activities in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary.
Furthermore, celebrations will also be held for the 10th anniversary of Cu Lao Cham’s recognition as a biosphere reserve.
These major events are expected to attract a large number of tourists to the locality over the remaining months of the year.
