Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 17 million visitors in the first six months of this year, including 4.2 million foreigners, up 10.1 percent year on year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

The city earned 73 trillion VND (3.13 billion USD) from tourism in the first half of this year, a rise of 16.6 percent over the same period last year.

In order to attract more tourists, in the last six months of this year, the department will continue implementing its plan to build new and diverse products.

It will coordinate with outlying Cu Chi district to develop agricultural tourism in association with the national target programme to build new-style rural areas.

Alongside, an ecotourism model in Thanh An commune of suburban Can Gio district will be formed, along with the completion of seven river tourism routes.

The city will also build a strategy to develop meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) tourism towards 2025.
