SPOILED IN VENICE

Shopping, good food and culture just a few steps from the Rialto Bridge.

The Fondaco dei Tedeschi has been a part of the history of Venice for as many as eight centuries. First constructed in 1228 and then rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1508, it was converted into a Post Office in 1808,a purpose that it served for almost one century.

A mute witness of the Venetian mercantile era, as its name suggests, in medieval times the building was used as a trading post for German merchants who stocked goods arriving from Nuremberg and Augsburg (Bavaria, Germany) here.

Located at the foot of the famous Rialto Bridge, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi is one of Venice's largest and most recognizable buildings due, among other things to its architecture which sets it apart from most of the other buildings overlooking the Grand Canal.

This Venetian ‘palazzo’ is so iconic that it was even mentioned in an 007 movie. In the 2006 episode ofCasino Royale, a "palazzo" (obviously not a real one), located just steps from the Rialto Bridge, closely resembling the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, collapsed in on itself, during an the movie scene.

In 2016, after 7 years of restoration, the historical building Fondaco dei Tedeschi opened again to the public as a new luxury department store.

This national heritage hosts the new department store T-Fondaco, whose retail concept is by London-based Jamie Fobert Architects.

Both locals and international travelers will be welcomed by the 500 professional staff members to the 7,000 square-meter department store, that will offer the best in leading Italian and International brands and also the highest level of handcrafted products made by Venetian master artisans. A new service of simplified tax refund system at the cash desk will be offered in partnership with Premier Tax Free.

The new must-visit destination, whose renovated courtyard and panoramic rooftop (360 degrees view, see the photo gallery!) are ready to host not only boutiques but also a rich calendar of cultural events, such as art exhibitions, is ready to reactivate the historic Venetian connection between culture and commerce.

If you would like to receive a special discount voucher or the possibility of visiting the most beautiful terrace of Venice with no line or to have this historical building available for exclusive private evening events ask to Gastaldi that, due to a very good relationship, can offer all this and much more at the Fondaco!
