Motorclassica – the pièce de résistance of automotive timeless luxury

Melbourne’s opulent Royal Exhibition Building was the ultimate location for the annual Motorclassica featuring the Australian International Concours d’Elegance – the Southern hemisphere’s most prestigious and unique competition of beauty, design and provenance.

Motorclassica last month exclusively hosted more than 160 pristine, rare and desirable machines representing the best from collections around Australia and beyond; exhibited alongside displays from the world’s greatest automotive marques including Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Maserati, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, and Holden.

The show, produced by Exhibitions & Trade Fairs, part of Staging Connections for the eighth consecutive year, attracted the industry’s elite – with over 22,000 discerning enthusiasts enjoying a day of fine food and wine, presented by the event’s Principal Partners, Mercedes-Benz, Mossgreen Auctions, Lorbek Luxury Cars, and Champagne Pommery.

The 2017 event was one of particular celebration for marques’ Ferrari, Holden and Lancia reaching significant milestone anniversaries of 70, 100 and 110 years, respectively.

The weekend event also incorporated the Classic Motor Show, featuring the very best in products and services for those who enjoy the motoring lifestyle. Show-goers had the opportunity to test drive new models from Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Maserati, Porsche and Indian motorcycles, and connect with up to 80 vendors sporting quality offerings including restoration and aftermarket products, automobilia and art, touring destinations and apparel.

A highlight of Motorclassica is always the highly anticipated Collector Car Auction, conducted by Principal Partner Mossgreen Auctions, where local and international collectors bid millions of dollars to lay claim to some of the finest collectibles in the industry.

The Australian International Concours d’Elegance ultimate accolade, Best in Show, was awarded to Sydney media personality David Berthon, who has spent 15 years lovingly restoring his 1913 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.

“The reaction to the car from the public all weekend has been fantastic, that’s been the thrill for me, and this (the Award) is cream on the cake.” David proclaimed.

Last month, Exhibitions & Trade Fairs (a subsidiary of Freeman, along with Staging Connections) were proud to be announced as a finalist for Motorclassica 2016 for Best Consumer Show over 10,000m² in the 2017 Exhibition & Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) Awards for Excellence. The team hope to take home the trophy later this month, when winners are announced, to accompany their 2014 win for the same show in the same category.

Motorclassica will again be held under the dome of the iconic, World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, 12 – 14th October 2018.
