Sydney’s favourite neighbourhood shopping streets are alluring, whether you’re browsing for inspiration, looking for a fabulous dress or searching for that perfect accessory. You’ll find a diverse mix of boutiques and markets. You can even visit a jeweller whose designs are worn by movie stars.
Oxford Street, running from Darlinghurst to Paddington, is a great place to start. Explore the edgy boutiques at The Intersection, on the Glenmore Road corner. Paddington Markets is every Saturday and nearby is William Street, where you’ll find handmade chocolates at Just William Chocolates.
In nearby Queen Street, Woollahra is a chic assortment of fashion, homewares and antiques as well as purveyors of gourmet products. A short drive away is Double Bay, next to sparkling Sydney Harbour. Knox and Cross streets and nearby side streets are filled with fashionable boutiques.
Jan Logan, a jeweller in Cross Street, has designed jewellery for film actresses such as Naomi Watts, Jennifer Lopez and Joan Chen. You can take a ferry from Double Bay to Circular Quay for the Sydney Opera House and city centre shopping. Alternatively, you can head for Crown Street in Surry Hills.
Browse the vintage racks of Grandma Takes a Trip and the quirky shelves of Holy Kitsch, among others, on Crown Street. Another popular area is King Street in Newtown, where there is a marvellous range of designer boutiques, gift emporiums, vintage stores and book retailers.
Darling Street runs from Balmain to Rozelle and there are delightful boutiques, markets, bookstores, cafes and pubs. A ferry ride from Circular Quay is a wonderful way to get to Balmain. Across the harbour in elegant Mosman are stylish boutiques, artisan homewares and cafes along Military Road.
