Two events secured exclusively for Sydney by Destination NSW have won top honours at the prestigious NSW Sports Awards.
The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge and HSBC Sydney 7s tied for ‘NSW Event of the Year’.
Time attack racing is a time-trial style of motorsport where racers compete for the fastest lap time across a range of vehicle classes and categories. Last year the event attracted 5,325 overnight domestic and international visitors, generating more than $3.6 million in visitor spend for NSW.
The HSBC Sydney 7s in February 2016 attracted sell-out crowds at Allianz Stadium on both days of competition. This year’s event was even more hotly contested with fans cheering on the Australian Women’s Sevens team, and Olympic Gold medallists, who competed in the tournament for the first time.
Sport NSW is an independent member-based peak body representing NSW sport and the active recreation sector. For more information about the NSW Sports Awards, visit www.sportnsw.com.au.
