Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss said Saturday night's 'pearl' anniversary of the Brolga Awards was an incredible milestone and a testament to how important tourism is to the Northern Territory economy.
“The passion and excellence shown by tourism operators this year has been a wonderful reflection of our incredible attractions, tours, experiences, food and culture in the Northern Territory,” said Ms Moss.
The world-heritage listed Kakadu National Park won the Brolga for best Major Tourist Attraction while Curtin Springs near Uluru picked up best Tourist Attraction for its diverse range of experiences showcasing the unique landscapes and culture of Central Australia.
Other big winners were Uluru Camel Tours, who won the best Tour and Transport Operator for the 5th consecutive year and Venture North who took out the best Cultural Tourism for the 6th year in a row.
The Purple Mango Brewery, which only opened in May this year, won best New Tourism experience for its “boutique beers in the bush” experience providing a tasty tourism stopover for visitors on the way to Kakadu.
Festival and Events, a competitive category in the Territory, was won by the Uluru Camel Cup. The Cup, a must do for travellers to Uluru, features a fun filled weekend of activities including an outback style day of camel racing.
Crazy Acres Mango Farm & Café, situated a half hour drive south of Darwin on a 25 acre property, won the coveted Excellence in Food Tourism category for their use of the iconic Kensington Pride mango. Visitors can stop by for a bite to eat and then enjoy a dip in the nearby Berry Springs.
Glen Helen Homestead Lodge, located in the West MacDonnell Ranges, picked up the 'Hosted Accommodation' award for their outstanding customer service and talent for going above and beyond with visitors.
Other winners in the accommodation section were the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, known for its quirky crocodile shaped building and Big4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park, taking out once again the Caravan and Holiday Parks category.
“This year's Brolga Awards attracted significant support from industry with the chance to represent the Northern Territory at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards (QATAs) on home soil in Darwin for the first time on 24 February 2017.
“This will be an exciting moment for our industry with the chance to shine on the national stage in our own backyard.
