Hopes are high for a great season at Mt Buller

Mt Buller resort will officially open for the 2016 snow season this long weekend, and expectations for the winter are on a high.

“There have been a few early falls of snow in May and some further dustings this week which has everyone in good spirits,” said Buller Ski Lifts General Manager, Laurie Blampied. “I like the look of the forecast and there’s a chance we will see some snow fall for the opening weekend, which is just how we like it.”

Mt Buller is primed for a busy winter season with record numbers of children registered for “Snow Squad” ski and snowboard programs and season membership sales the highest ever reported for the resort.

“Mt Buller skiers and snowboarders are showing us they are ready to get on the slopes and have been buying their passes and memberships in record numbers,” said Blampied.

The confidence is reflected right around the resort with car parking passes and pre-paid resort entry sales also showing a significant upturn. Gillian Dobson, Group Manager of Marketing, Sales and Events at the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Resort Management Board confirmed, “There is a real buzz in the market and great anticipation for this winter. It’s terrific to see a record number of travel agents registered for our online booking system and guests are already getting in early to secure good deals on packages.”

Revellers spending the long weekend at Mt Buller for the opening festivities will enjoy a lively program of events and celebrations to mark the beginning of the snow season.

They will also see many updates and improvements around the resort. Mt Buller has invested in further snowmaking for the 2016 winter and there are many upgrades to businesses including a major renovation for the Black Cockatoo Restaurant and Bar, an expanded and improved supermarket with the renewal of the Buller Grocer, additional village lighting, a new Fish and Chippery as well as enhancements to the 3G and 4G coverage in the resort to meet demand during the busy winter period.

Mt Buller is an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne and will welcome thousands of snow revellers this weekend.

The snow season officially runs until the end of September. A range of accommodation deals and packages are available for Opening Weekend and the entire season - visit mtbuller.com.au for further details or call 1800 BULLER to book.
