Athens - Syntagma Square

Syntagma and Omonia squares in central Athens will welcome some new grand hotels during 2016 meaning that visitors to Athens can look forward to a growing selection of places to stay.

The first new hotel will operate in the former culture ministry building, currently being revamped, along central Mitropoleos Street, with the group having invested 15 million euros in the 5-star hotel, 220-room complex complete with pool, restaurant, fitness and conference centers. The hotel is set to open in spring 2016.

Another major hotel project is also getting off the blocks on the same street. Grecotel Hotels & Resorts has acquired planning permission to convert the 1925 Kallimasiotis Mansion building into a grand luxury hotel.

In another part of the city center, Omonia Square, a 120-room, four-star hotel is also set to open, where the Fashion House Hotel formerly stood. This unit will be run by Mage Hotels & Resorts.

Finally, Coco-Mat Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is also planning the opening of a new 39-room boutique hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Kolonaki, central Athens, budgeted at 10 million euros.
