The Wicklow Way: Walk to the Rising!

Ireland commemorates the first centenary of its Easter Rising this year, an event that would change Irish history forever and eventually result in the foundation of the Irish Republic.

In the centenary of its Rising, walk the Wicklow Way to Dublin and see the city from a new perspective. The Wicklow Way is one of the best hikes in Ireland and the country's best loved mountain trail, offering walkers a perfect combination of history, culture and fantastic scenery.

Starting in the quaint little village of Clonegal, the Wicklow Way takes walkers across the lush rolling hills of County Wicklow, also known as the Garden of Ireland, stopping for the night in lovely country villages and towns. Peaceful forest tracks head to the glacial valley of Glenmalure and on to impressive Glendalough, in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. The spectacular views over Glendalough's lakes and its unique 6th century monastic village are some of the highlights of this walking tour.

Once in Dublin, spend a couple of days exploring the city of the Easter Rising and visit iconic places where the most important episodes of this historic event took place such as the General Post Office and Kilmainham Gaol; where you will be able to learn more about the story behind the rebellion and its main characters.

Many events are scheduled to take place in Dublin city throughout 2016 to commemorate the centenary of Easter Rising 1916.
