Taylor Swift Selfie Drives Record Instagram Fans for the Gold Coast

A selfie with a kangaroo taken by pop royalty, Taylor Swift during her recent trip to the Gold Coast has tipped the local tourism organisation's Instagram following to over 100,000.

“We've known for a long time that celebrity endorsement can do wonders for a destination,” Martin Winter, Chief Executive Officer of Gold Coast Tourism has said. “A single image of a relaxed Swift 'Shaking It Off' on the Gold Coast has tipped Visit Gold Coast Instagram to a record new high.”

“This latest result has seen Visit Gold Coast place sixth in the country in the Airlines, Travel and Tourism category; outperforming major players such as Virgin Australia, Visit NSW, Jetstar Australia, Expedia and Carnival Cruise Lines,” he added.
