The Cat Hotel - a purr-fect hotel in Ho Chi Minh City

When I visited Ho Chi Minh City recently I wandered around the streets surrounding then Ben Thanh Market looking for a good hotel to stay several nights in. One that caught my eye, only one block away from the markets, was the Cat Hotel. I wondered about who could book in - was it for humans or cats?

The answer became clear when I went in through its front doors. The Cat Hotel welcomes people in a hotel with cat related decor of cat art prints, clocks and mirrors. I found it interesting that there were no pet cats in the hotel, just a cute small pet dog.

It has a 24-hour front reception desk with friendly staff who speak  fluent Vietnamese and English.

I found the Cat Hotel offers simple and comfy accommodation with free WiFi access in my room and all the other 14 guest rooms. A small lift takes you up to the guest rooms on the upper floors.

My guest room at the rear of the hotel has cool tiled flooring, air-conditioning, and comes with a wardrobe, desk, minibar, electric kettle and a flat-screen TV with cable channels. It was good to be able to open my window and look out at the calmness of the shaded park and bustle of the street traffic.

The attached bathroom includes towels, hairdryer, toilet and shower facility.

The Cat Hotel provides a daily housekeeping service. Laundry, dry cleaning an ironing services and luggage storage are available.

It is just a 2 star hotel, not a 5 star hotel, and did not include breakfast. However, it was well worth the $20 nightly charge.

I found the Cat Hotel to be in a very convenient location in the the heart of District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. District 1 is a great choice for travellers interested in nightlife, markets and shopping. It is just one short block away from the huge indoor Ben Thanh Market and nightly street markets. It was just a short walk to the Mariamman Temple, Tao Dan Park, Fine Arts Museum, and shopping plazas. A McDonalds store was just the on other side of the park.
