Free Melbourne Day Concert for Melbourne's 180th Anniversary Celebrations

Melbourne Day is hosting the inaugural Melbourne Day “FREE Concert in the Docklands” headlined by Melbourne born, Australian music legends- Daryl Braithwaite and Russell Morris on Sunday August 30, 2015!

Over the past 19 years, the Melbourne Day committee have coordinated a number of entertaining activities and cultural events to raise awareness of Melbourne's history and celebrate our city's anniversary – but this year – it is bigger and better than ever – to celebrate the special 180th Birthday –and pulling out all stops with a concert headlined by these two Melbourne icons.

Shooting to fame in the mid 60's, Russell Morris was one of Australia's first ever internationally successful singer- songwriters. Having five Australia Top 10 singles during the late 1960's and early 1970's- Russell burst to international fame with his legendary hit – The Real Thing – which became Coca Cola's worldwide advertising slogan - his iconic status was immediately recognised, and since he has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Constantly in demand, Russell captures the hearts and imaginations of Australians- retelling Australia's distant and great stories- and will be performing his hits such as “The Girl That I Love” , “Wings of an Eagle, “Sweet Sweet Love” and of course the Aussie theme “The Real Thing”.

Daryl Braithwaite has been a vital part of the Australian music landscape for more than 40 years now. Known for teen hysteria and swag of number one hits in the 1970s –as the lead singer of popular Australian band Sherbet -- which made him one of Australia's most successful pop singers --Daryl is now a sort after major act throughout the country. Daryl performs not only Sherbet's swag of number one hits such as “Howzat” and “Silvery Moon” but a repertoire of Number One hits from his solo career – such as “One Summer”, “As the Days Go By”……and of course the show stopping “The Horses”.

Joining these two pop music giants - will be Australian's favourite contestant on The Voice, Soli Tresmes and Melbourne's very own The Pierce Brother duo- as supporting acts. The concert will also offer a range of children's entertainment including- Australia's leading female Ventriloquist Lindi Jane and her family of puppets and popular children's music group Pevan & Sarah.

The free all-ages concert will kick off at 1.30 pm and the day will include live entertainment, a market of food stalls, trendy food trucks and a raft of activities for the entire family- throughout the Docklands precinct. Free boat rides and harbour trips will also be available throughout the day, forming a spectacular flotilla as a part of the regatta.

So Melburnians………it's time to party- as Melbourne Day offers a full day of celebrations in the heart of the city with: official ceremonies, a regatta re-enactment of the first settlement of Melbourne along the Yarra and exclusive retail and restaurant promotions.

Melbourne Day aims to educate citizens on the founding of Melbourne, which was August 30, 1835 and to celebrate this annual day through highlighting all the wonderful attributes of our city that make it a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

So come and support everything that is great about our city as it is now up to us to tell the story in the next stage of this historical event!
