Adelaide Fashion Festival – Local Designers On The International Stage

Hindmarsh Square will be transformed into runway central for the Adelaide Fashion Festival this October, when South Australia’s local fashion industry will be projected to the world.

Premier Jay Weatherill, will tonight officially launch the 2015 Adelaide Fashion Festival, which is set to involve 22 local designers in runway events happening across the City.

“The Adelaide Fashion Festival will showcase South Australia’s growing local fashion industry with the opportunity for design houses to show their works on the international and national stage,” Mr Weatherill said.

“The Festival will feature highlight runway shows by industry stars such as Sally Phillips and Liza Emanuele at the new Runway and Festival hub in Hindmarsh Square.

“There will be a stunning night of fashion held within the beautiful spaces of the Art Gallery of South Australia.

“And the festival’s grand finale will be the Paolo Sebastian parade – with Paul Vasileff presenting his 2016 international collection to the world live from Adelaide.”

The State Government is investing $2 million over four years in the Adelaide Fashion Festival.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said one of our key economic priorities is for South Australia to be a growing destination choice for international and domestic travellers.

“The Chinese visitor market – the highest spending of all our international visitors – is absolutely critical to increasing employment in our regions and the Fashion Festival is a brilliant way to promote our state even further in Asia,” Mr Bignell said.

“Tonight’s launch will not only showcase the Adelaide Fashion Festival program but also the state’s premium food and wine, which will feature throughout a series of events in October celebrating design and innovation.

“Renowned designers are working tirelessly to prepare for the Festival with many producing new collections to showcase exclusively at the event.”Tonight Australian Fashion Labels will launch its newest range called TY-LR, designed by Chris Kontos.

Another feature of the AFF will be the Premier’s Design Award, for final-year TAFE SA fashion design graduates who will work with Mr Kontos, as well as Founder and Head Designer Paolo Sebastian Paul Vasileff, and designers Sally Phillips, Liza Emanuele and Tiff Manuel.

“We are fortunate to have such home grown talent and I thank the five mentors for taking the time to give back to the local industry,” Mr Weatherill added.

The Design Award will select five students work alongside these iconic designers in a mentoring capacity to design and create an outfit that will be shown at the Festival.

“This is an amazing chance for us to develop our local design talent and have the Adelaide Fashion Festival create a legacy for development and mentoring within the industry.”

The overall winner will be announced during the Adelaide Fashion Festival with the grand prize being a 12 month industry mentoring program.

The Festival will take place from October 22 – 25 2015.
