Digital Influencers to Get Snap Happy in Tropical North Queensland

FOUR digital influencers with a combined Instagram following of more than 420,000 people will capture Tropical North Queensland through the lens of a Canon camera in a new social media campaign by Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and Canon Australia.

The influencers will travel to Tropical North Queensland between May 4 and 7 and capture the region's beauty from their unique viewpoints through a Canon lens.

The influencers include - Matt Glastonbury (@mattglastonbury); Liz Carlson (@youngadventuress); Sean Scott (@seanscottphotography); and Sol Davey (@sldvy), have been provided with different itineraries which encapsulate rainforest, reef and outback experiences.

Their adventures will take them to Cairns, Port Douglas, the Daintree, Palm Cove, Undara, Mossman, Mareeba, Kuranda, Cape Tribulation, Mission Beach, Fitzroy Island and the Outer Great Barrier Reef.

Canon Australia is loaning camera equipment to the digital influencers who will be the first in Australia to test out the new EOS M3.

In late May, TEQ and Canon will run a consumer competition to win the EOS M3 Canon camera and Flight Centre voucher which will allow a lucky winner to follow in the footsteps of their favourite digital influencer.

TEQ Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Coddington, said the initiative was an extension of the successful Paradise Through your Lens campaign, a global search for 10 travellers to visit the destination and capture their experience in paradise earlier this year.

“Having visitors advocate a destination's tourism attributes is an authentic and compelling form of marketing,” Ms Coddington said.

“In its first few weeks, the Paradise Through Your Lens campaign has attracted more than a million online interactions which includes viewers liking and sharing the content.”

Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chief Executive Officer Alex de Waal said working with digital influencers had helped @tropicalnorthqueensland increase its followers by 443 per cent in just nine months to 40,000.

“Having four influencers with such a large combined Instagram following as these sharing their images of Tropical North Queensland will substantially increase the exposure of our region to a new audience.”

Canon Australia Communications and Public Relations Manager Andrew Giles said this activity will see a new group of digital influencers share their photography tips for capturing and promoting the destination via their social media channels to a global audience.

“When you travel you naturally make sure you have your camera with you to capture your adventures and relive them afterward. Canon aims to help people do more with their photography and what better way to do this than showing paradise through your Canon lens.”

While in region, the digital influencers will post daily to a multiple social media platforms. To follow their adventures go to #thisisqueensland #exploretnq #canonaustralia
