The next big thing in Asian Travel

The government has declared 2015 "Visit the Philippines Year" (VPY) in a bid to attract more foreign guests to the country.

Big events lined up for 2015

Business meetings - The Philippines is set to chair and host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meetings and Leaders' Summit which will gather 21 of the regional grouping's leaders.

Chairmanship of the APEC involves actual hosting and chairing of a series of meetings from the Senior Officials Meetings (SOMs) to the APEC Ministerial Meetings (AMMs) all the way up to the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM). These meetings will run from December 2014 to November 2015.

History and culture - Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the Philippines from January 15 to 19. The Pope is going to Palo and Tacloban in Leyte to see for himself the destruction of Typhoon Haiyan and meet with the families who were affected. The Pope's visit will coincide with the 20th anniversary of World Youth Day Philippines, the world gathering that took place in Manila on 10-15 January 1995.

On top of the Pope's visit, the Philippines will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the final battles of World War II, alongside the countries involved in the war, to pay homage to the fallen soldiers in September 2015.
