Canberra Bucket List

If you've always wanted to fly in a hot air balloon, hunt for truffles, meet a cheetah or take a selfie underneath Parliament House's Australia flag, make 2015 the year you start ticking things off your Canberra Bucket List.

With help from fans and followers on social media, Canberra's destination marketing organisation, VisitCanberra, has curated a list of things everyone has to see, do, taste, try and experience in Canberra. So why not make 2015 the year you start ticking some of them off your #CBRbucketlist?

The bucket list encourages visitors and locals alike to experience the best of what is new in the city as well as some old favourites. Canberra's flourishing arts scene, thriving food and wine industry, outdoor activities, natural beauty, fantastic range of festivals and array of world class attractions are sure to entertain and excite.

VisitCanberra's Director Ian Hill said the bucket list is a great way to get visitors talking about Canberra through social media about the exciting range of things to experience in the capital.

'Visitors talking about and sharing their experiences using #CBRbucketlist shows what an engaging and exciting destination Canberra has become,' Mr Hill said.

'Where else can you pat a cheetah, catch a blockbuster exhibition, ride a segway around a beautiful lake, tackle world-class mountain bike trails and explore more than 30 cellar doors within 35 minutes of a city CBD? And that's just a small taste of what Canberra has to offer.”

Some of the experiences that made the list include attending the Australian War Memorial's ANZAC Day dawn service, tackling night photography at the Enlighten Festival, relaxing on a wine tasting tour through Canberra's premium wine growing region, and embarking on the ultimate animal encounter at the National Zoo & Aquarium's new luxury accommodation.

Fans of VisitCanberra nominated events and experiences like the Enlighten Night Noodle Market, catching a comedy show during the Canberra Comedy Festival, witnessing the remarkable change in light at the National Gallery of Australia's Within Without skyspace at dawn or dusk, and taking part in the Canberra Balloon Spectacular.

For something different you could also tick off taking part in a hands-on class at the Canberra Glassworks, joining a morning trail ride with Burnelee Excursions on Horseback, exploring the illuminated wonderland that is Floriade Nightfest or enjoying a picnic at sunset at the National Arboretum Canberra with stunning views over the city and beyond.
