Hotel ICON and Barney Cheng Celebrate the Beauty of Tradition

Representing the combined efforts of Hong Kong's most creative talents, this year, Hotel ICON has teamed up with couture designer Barney Cheng to create a beautiful Christmas tree that celebrates the beauty of Christmas tradition with an entirely modern twist.

The "HOTEL ICON x BARNEY CHENG" Christmas tree is a Barney Cheng creation adorned with his exclusively designed ornaments that perfectly balance the old world with the new.

Since Christmas is tied to tradition, Cheng has selected the baubles with a contemporary twist on traditional old world charm complete with his own signature "extravagant simplicity". Hammered metal gives the baubles the effect of relics but these couture and artisanal pieces reflect Hotel ICON's and Cheng's iconic modern style. The majority of the pieces are antique silver and antique gold with lime green and aqua blue accent colours.

The true beauty of this design is in the fine details of the baubles. Resin faceted bead twig wreaths add a touch of modern rustic charm while matte white ceramic birds atop gold twigs add a vintage feel to the design. Other detailed tree features include ornaments with finely faceted beads, metallic twigs incased in iridescent glass balls, mercury glass votive candles finished in antique metals, and blown glass angels.

"I loved creating contemporary representations of very traditional decorative objects to reflect Hotel ICON's style and the spirit of the season. This is the beauty of tradition," said designer Barney Cheng.
