Hainan's centenarian population reaches 1,499, ranking first in nation

On October 2 the Double Ninth Day of 2014, the annual Nanshan Longevity Culture Festival was held at the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area in Sanya.

The Sanya Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone is well known for having an unusual community of citizens who have lived to a grand old age. At the opening ceremony of the festival, selected healthy senior citizens were awarded prizes at the event.

Recently, Hainan Island was declared a World Longevity Island by the International Expert Committee on Population Aging and Longevity (ISCPAL).

As the only tropical coastal tourism destination in the country, Hainan is blessed with an extremely pleasant climate and a good ecological environment. The number of centenarians in Hainan has now reached 1,944, which means that 21.46 per 100,000 citizens residing in the province are over 100 years of age. Hainan has the largest population of citizens over 100 years old in China.

During the holiday, visitors over 60 years of age are able to enjoy free tickets to the Nanshan Scenic Area.
