TOURISM NEW ZEALAND WINS BEST INTERNATIONAL TOURISM OFFICE
Tourism New Zealand has been awarded Best International Tourist Office for the second time in four years at the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) 2014 awards.
More than 1300 travel industry members gathered at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Saturday 19 July for the annual NTIA, as AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury paid tribute to an industry that is powering forward.
The event saw a record 34 travel industry individuals and groups named number one in their respective categories including Air New Zealand who was recognised as a finalist for Best International Airline – Online.
Tony Saunders, General Manager Australia Tourism New Zealand accepted the award acknowledging wholesale, retail, regional tourism organisations and airline partners.
"We're honoured to be recognised as the Best International Tourist Office in one of the most competitive tourism markets in the world."
“Our team has delivered strong key initiatives over the past 12 months including Ski, Touring, Special Interests and Coach campaigns, National Hobbit screenings across Australia to leverage New Zealand’s association with Middle-earth, The 100% Pure New Zealand Specialist Programme and the re-launch of our travel trade website.
“This award is very important to us as given over 40 percent of arrivals are from Australia with holiday arrivals up 4.4% year ending June 2014.
“The strength of our industry partnerships is real testament to this success.
“To be awarded by the broader industry is a huge reward - it speaks volumes about how positively people perceive New Zealand”, Mr Saunders said.
