Mickey Mouse on Ice and Ramadan Heat: Summer to September in Dubai

As the temperature rises, Dubai really does turn up the heat. On its event line-up. With Mickey Mouse and a number of other Disney favourites set to ice skate into the desert, the remarkable city is preparing for their arrival with a Ramadan to remember – including a world premiere exhibition of the world's most downloaded app, Angry Birds.

Disney On Ice, 10th – 13th September, Dubai World Trade Centre: 

Wherever you're from, there are only two opportunities to get up close to your favourite Disney characters – and a Disney On Ice show is one of them. Gliding into Dubai this September, the brand new spectacular of the ice skating extravaganza features scenes from Disney classics old and new, including BRAVE, Tangled, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Tickets are available online at www.virginmegastores.ae, priced in five tiers: Bronze AED 175, Silver AED 275, Gold AED 475, VIP 1,000 and Royal Rink-side AED 2,000.

Ramadan in Dubai, 29th June – 27th July,various venues around Dubai: 

A melting pot of more than 200 nationalities, Dubai showcases its historical roots to both residents and visitors during July. A significant and fascinating period, the city comes to life during the month-long observance of Ramadan, as it hosts a series of events celebrating the very best of local culture and heritage.

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar sees the Ramadan Night Market at Dubai World Trade Centre delight residents and visitors alike with traditional wares from the region including jewellery, clothing and food. With cuisine in mind, friends and family can come together to break their fast after sunset, as is traditional during the holy month.

Sensational meals, known as Iftars, are on offer at a number of the city's internationally-renowned hotels – including the iconic Atlantis The Palm Dubai.

A city alive in the evening throughout Ramadan, traditional Suhoor tents welcome guests later into the night-time, offering traditional Arabic cuisine, entertainment and shisha. July will close with Layali, a night of magical Arabic music from 30th – 31st July and Eid, a national holiday to mark the close of Ramadan from 28th – 31st of the month.

Angry Birds Universe, 27th July – 8th September, Modhesh World: 

So what to do before sunset? Spend your days as an Angry Bird of course – as the #1 downloaded app of all time flies its new travelling exhibition into the emirate for its world premiere. Showcasing the art and science of the global phenomenon, Angry Birds Universe touches down in Dubai's family entertainment destination, Modhesh World, during July. Set to bring the interactive fun of Angry Birds to life, it features a 'body-on' interactive journey enabling you to fly like your favourite characters from the game, as well as launching the Angry Birds into a variety of game-inspired structures.

Dubai Music Week, 17th – 20th September, Dubai World Trade Centre: 

Following performances from global sensations will.i.am and Timbaland at the inaugural edition of Dubai Music Week last year, the only major music industry trade show and conference of its kind in the region will be back in the emirate for an event of epic proportions in September. With some of the world's finest and foremost speakers in the field of music coming to Dubai to talk about how to make it big, this event is a must-attend for music fans and those from the music industry. 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men, 8th – 16th August, Hamdan Sports Complex: 

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is bouncing its 2014 U17 Basketball tournament to Dubai in August. Having begun in 2010, it is a bi-annual sporting event inviting the world's most skilled and talented junior basketball teams to challenge each other on the court.

“Catering to a mix of East and West, Summer to September in Dubai represents an amalgamation of world-renowned music and entertainment, along with events to celebrate rich local culture.
