Kyneton's Royal George Hotel to Be Transformed

The new owners of Kyneton's Royal George Hotel are set to transform and revitalise the iconic hotel to focus on craft beer and casual dining.

Chris Taylor and Lucinda Brown have impressive plans for the grand old dame. In coming weeks they will install a wall of taps in the main bar which will feature 16 craft beers and ciders that will rotate on a regular basis. The dining room will focus on incorporating beer and hops in the cooking and offer modern Australian cuisine along with casual shared plate dining.

A monthly craft beer club will be established to educate interested home brewers and beer drinkers and the pair will invite experts to discuss different grains, hops and flavours of the featured brews.

Both Chris and Lucinda are passionate about craft beer and cider and are members Melbourne Brewer's Club. Chris is also an awarded home brewer and has a BJCP qualification for judging craft beer.

“There are so many fantastic little breweries out there with amazing products that people just don't get a chance to taste so this will be a focus for us,” says Lucinda.

“Craft brewers really care about their product, have the ability to experiment with flavours and the produce used tends to be organic and locally driven. We want to bring the unusual and unique to the fore so people can try beers which incorporate flavours which reflect the produce of the region.”

Lucinda and Chris also plan to bring back locals night, have regular events and encourage local community groups and committees to use the space.

“We want the Royal George to be an integral part of the community again where locals can come in for a beer, a coffee and a catch up,” says Lucinda.

The Royal George Hotel is open five days from 11am to 11pm Wednesday to Sunday.
