Port Douglas Stages Party of the Year

Where else in Australia boasts a lush hinterland, bounteous rivers and gorges, dazzling beaches, stunning verdant coastline, is regarded as a regional food destination, has the world's largest coral reef on its doorstep plus for 20 years has hosted Carnivale?

The perennially exciting event which each year adds more surprises to the calendar, is held over 10 dazzling days and fun-filled nights in Port Douglas, and is a magnet Australia-wide for visitors and locals alike. It takes to the streets, restaurants, bars, parks, even beaches with live entertainment, a smattering of art and sport, celebrity spotting, stuff for the kids plus a heady mix of eating, drinking and mingling in a party environment.

Carnivale starts this year on 16 May and to mark the two decade milestone, Events North Queensland has created the Party of the Year on Saturday 24 May 2014 in Rex Smeal Park, which is perched above Dickson's Inlet and considered one of Australia's best open air live music venues.

Food, Wine and a Taste of Port, appropriately themed Gods of Galaxy, is guaranteed to deliver a star-studded night of nights with headline act and Aussie gods of hard rock, The Screaming Jets, which was formed in Newcastle in 1989 by front man Dave Gleeson on vocals, Grant Walmsley on guitar and Paul Woseen on bass guitar and backing vocals. The band's three albums peaked in the top five in ARIA charts

Support act Hip 2 Soul is a four-piece soul/rock/pop covers band. The accent is on 'party', it delivers a high energy performance, lead vocalist/front man A.D.is notorious for whipping audiences into a frenzy with his larger-than-life stage presence and they're sure to have the house a rockin'.

The Montgomery Brothers also know how to captivate an audience. Without fail, the audience is left with a bad case of jaw-drop watching their virtuosity on the fretboard and cajon. Playing in the style of Tommy and Phil Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Django Reinhardt, George Benson, Brad Paisley, Joe Robinson, Ric Montgomery, and many more, these two young men take their classic, timeless inspirations and transform them into a music experience that will entertain even the most diverse audiences.

Food-wise there'll be kiosks with dishes, packs and snacks specifically chosen by Port Douglas Catering & Events because the quality is outstanding, the pricing very reasonable and the selections suit all tastes. There's Mediterranean-style picnic packs, fresh prawns and shucked oysters, Barramundi spring rolls, arancini, tacos, satay, curries, gourmet pizzas, barbecued lamb, battered reef fish, the great Aussie steak sandwich, Thai-inspired soft shell mud crab and so much more. And let's not forget sensational desserts and cheese. A well-staffed long bar, dedicated to ensuring queues are at an absolute minimum, will serve cocktails, beer and wine.

Pyrotechnicians have given their assurance the fireworks finale will not only fit the Gods of Galaxy theme but blast off using the latest technology, never seen before in North Queensland.

“Securing The Screaming Jets is such a coup and the audience will love them,” says Nerida Meakin, head of sales and business development for Events NQ. “The group is also a great complement overall to the Food, Wine and A Taste of Port event, is a perfect fit for the Gods of Galaxy theme and there's no doubt this night of nights will be the Party of the Year.”
