Melbourne Airport is delighted with United Airlines’ decision to choose Melbourne for its international launch of the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Melbourne Airport Chief Executive, Mr Chris Woodruff, said that the new service reinforced Melbourne as the home for the new 787 Dreamliner aircraft. “We are excited that United Airlines is launching its first international 787-9 service to Melbourne with a non-stop service to Los Angeles.”
“The United States is our second largest long-haul market, growing more than 30 per cent since 2010, and United Airlines is delivering more choice and convenience for Victorians and visitors, who will no longer have to travel through another Australian port,” said Mr Woodruff. “The timing of the flight will also mean that passengers can conveniently connect with other destinations within United’s extensive network.” “The new Dreamliner 787-9 is a thrilling aircraft and ideal for longer haul trips such as between Australia and the United States. This announcement, combined with the fact that components of the state-of-the-art Dreamliner are manufactured here in Victoria, reinforces Victoria as Australia’s home for this ground-breaking new aircraft.” Subject to government approvals, the new six times weekly service will commence on 28 October, 2014.
