New NSW Tourist Accommodation Quaterly Snapshot

From 1 July this year, Destination NSW is reporting on NSW tourist accommodation data as sourced from the STR Global survey instead of the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Survey of Tourist Accommodation.

The ABS moved the collection of their tourist accommodation survey from quarterly to annual, and the next release of the ABS tourist accommodation data is not until December 2014.

STR Global’s tourist accommodation results for the September quarter 2013 covered supply, demand and revenue indicators on hotels and serviced apartments with 10 or more rooms.

Results showed that the occupancy rate in NSW grew from 75 per cent in September quarter 2012 to 77 per cent in September quarter 2013, largely driven by the high occupancy rate in Sydney city, up from 83.5 per cent to 86 per cent.
