IT’S ON! in Wollongong
Destination Wollongong continues its summer of fun over the festive season, with a second cluster of spectacular events for visitors to enjoy.
Catch a movie under the stars at Sunset Cinema in Wollongong’s beautiful Botanic Garden, each Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from Boxing Day until 15 February.
The kids will love Disney Live! at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre on January 15 and you can channel your inner Bob Dylan at the Illawarra Folk Festival, which returns to Bulli Showground, featuring a range of leading international and domestic acts from 16-19 January 2014.
Wollongong hosts one of the largest Australia Day celebrations in NSW, with thousands of spectators lining the harbour. It kicks off with the 15th annual Aquathon – Australia’s largest swim/run event – with distances for every age and ability, along with a scenic charity walk. There are attractions and activities throughout the day, while elite basketball sees the Wollongong Hawks take on Melbourne. The traditional fireworks spectacular at Wollongong Harbour takes place at 9.00pm.
And don’t forget the Kiama Rugby Sevens, the world’s largest single day 7-a-side tournament, which is held at the historic oceanfront showground on February 22.
It’s On in Wollongong is a joint campaign by Destination NSW and Destination Wollongong.
Major events are a central pillar of Wollongong’s destination message, given its infrastructure and natural assets, proximity to the major Sydney and Canberra markets, (including domestic and international airports), and broad range of accommodation options.
