Virginia Gay at The Arts Centre Gold Coast: Songs to Self Destruct To (14 December)

Virginia Gay presents her new cabaret show Songs to Self-Destruct To at The Basement in the Arts Centre Gold Coast, Saturday 14 December 2013, proudly presented by the Arts Centre Gold Coast, in association with Cre8ion. Direct from sell-out shows at this year's Adelaide Cabaret Festival, this show is not to be missed. All the songs that you've ever loved and lost to, all the weep-fests you've played as you've clung to the sinking wreck of a relationship, everything that's ever killed your dog, sent your baby away and turned you to drink, drugs and despair ... is given a new glittering life as cheerful, upbeat sing-a-longs. Navigate the frightening, lonely hours between midnight and dawn with Australia's favourite foul-mouthed femme fatale Virginia Gay as she takes you through a dozen self-harming toe-tappers, her best-loved wrist-slitting ditties, with all the pep of black coffee, cigarettes and a bottle full of uppers.

Opera on the Beach (10-11 May)

Sometimes it feels like a crime to go indoors when the skies are clear, even for a night at the opera. That’s why we’re taking the opera out of the theatre and onto the beach.

Picture a giant sandcastle on the beach at Coolangatta, families enjoying a picnic, children making sandcastles as the sun goes down, and miraculously beautiful music. And there you have a uniquely Australian production of one of the world’s favourite operas, Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

This new production is directed by Michael Gow and stars some of Opera Australia’s finest singers, alongside a chorus drawn from community choirs and the Gold Coast’s own surf life saving clubs. Together, they will battle the serpent, put a spell on the guards and rescue the princess, before sending you home, with stars in your eyes, sand in your shoes and songs in your heart.
Presented by Opera Australia, Opera on the Beach is a world premiere outdoor opera spectacular that will see Mozart's enchanting fairy tale, The Magic Flute, performed under the stars on the rolling shores of Greenmount Beach in Coolangatta. There are three performances being presented on Greenmount Beach: Friday May 9, Saturday May 10 and Sunday May 11 (which is also Mother's Day). Full adult ticket prices start from just $39 and range up to $79 for premium seating (all ticket prices include booking fees). Premium ticket holders will have exclusive rights to a premium bar on the beach pre-show, during interval and post-show. Their ticket will also include seating on a low beach chair. A Reserve and B Reserve will be seated directly on the beach. Premium tickets include exclusive access to a premium bar and performance seating on a comfy beach chair.
Opera on the Beach will be a stunning event simply not to be missed.
