Cricket World Cup Coutdown Commences

New South Wales and more particularly the Sydney Cricket Ground will be match ready for the eyes of the world in 500 days when the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 commences.

Minister Upton joined legendary fast bowler Brett Lee and ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 CEO John Harnden for a close look at the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy aboard the Southern Swan Tall Ship which is on display for the International Fleet Review.

“The countdown is on and NSW will once again be gearing up to host one of the biggest sporting events in the world,” Minister for Sport and Recreation, Gabrielle Upton said.

“Sydney is a fitting host city for major events like the Cricket World Cup, and what better way to celebrate than on Sydney Harbour where the International Fleet Review program will commence with the Tall Ships.

“Major sporting events inspire a unique sense of shared excitement in the community, and add significant value to the economy.

“With more than one billion television viewers expected to tune in, the Cricket World Cup will truly showcase our State to the world.

“NSW will host both a quarter and a semi-final, in addition to several major pool games and warm up matches – more games than any other State,” Ms Upton added.

Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Victor Dominello, said many multicultural communities in NSW will have a great interest in this event.

“With more than 40 per cent of people in NSW having at least one parent born overseas and 260 languages spoken, sports like cricket can be a positive unifying force,” Mr Dominello said.

“The opportunity to take that energy and enthusiasm for cricket and turn it into a reservoir of goodwill to bring our diverse communities together will be a great benefit of hosting the World Cup,” Mr Dominello added.

Fans can now register online at www.cricketworldcup.com for pre-sale ticket access.

Ticket pricing and structure will be announced in November.
