International friendly matches between the Westfield Matildas and the Chinese Women’s National Team (China PR) will take place at WIN Stadium Wollongong and Parramatta Stadium on 24 and 27 November respectively.
“The NSW Government is determined to attract major sporting events and these two exciting matches have been made possible as a result of a partnership between Football Federation Australia and Venues NSW,” NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Gabrielle Upton said.
“This is a great opportunity for sport’s fans particularly in Western Sydney and the Illawarra to experience world-class women’s football right on their doorsteps.
“The Westfield Matildas will be using these matches as part of their build up for the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
“Last time these two teams clashed, Australia was defeated 2-1 at the EAFF East Asian Cup Qualifiers in Shenzhen – this time they will be facing their rivals on home soil,” Ms Upton added.
Venues NSW Chairman John Quayle said Parramatta Stadium, home of the Western Sydney Wanderers, and WIN Stadium are perfect venues for football.
“Just last weekend a pre-season match between Sydney FC and the Newcastle Jets at WIN Stadium saw 6,500 fans in attendance.
“The two international friendly matches between the Westfield Matildas and China PR are a great example of Venues NSW and the FFA working together to provide elite football at international standard venues in NSW,” Mr Quayle said.
Tickets for the matches at WIN Stadium, Wollongong, and Parramatta Stadium are now on sale to the general public on Wednesday 18 September at 12 noon via Ticketek. Tickets are also available from all Westfield Shopping Centre Ticketek outlets
