Cheer on the Aussie Rowers at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju South Korea

The South Korean city of Chungju will host the World Rowing Championships from 25 August to 1 September this year with Australian athletes expected to perform well. The championships will be held at the International Tangeum Lake Regatta Course ten minutes from the city of Chungju.
During the Championships, various cultural events and performances, exhibitions and fireworks will be carried out in and around the regatta venue and Chungju city. There will be an opening ceremony with martial arts performances at the Chungju World Martial Arts Park to celebrate the opening.

Rowing Australia recently officially announced the 2013 Australian Senior A Rowing Team following the conclusion of the 2013 National Selection Trials at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.

A squad of fifty-one Australian athletes have been selected into nine Olympic, one Paralympic and six Non-Olympic boat classes. Australia aims to build on the success it achieved at the opening round of the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup in Sydney, where the team won four gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

Chungju is known as a green city in Korea and is surrounded by a clean lake, river and mountains and is a city with rich cultural heritage and diverse tourist resources. There is spectacular mountain scenery in the national parks that surround the area - Mt. Woraksan and Mt. Sobaeksan National Parks. This region has some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the whole of Korea with its picturesque mountains and valleys.

There are beautiful mountain Buddhist temples in the region as well as several superb hot springs to enjoy such as Suanbo Hot Springs. Visitors can enjoy an overnight templestay and experience life as a Buddhist monk. Other activities such as rafting, paragliding and hiking are very popular in this region and a respite from city life for Koreans at weekends.
