ITE HCMC 2012 - Rong Vang Water Puppet Theatre
When I attended ITE HCMC 2012 in September this year, I was privileged to attend a performance of the Rong Vang Water Puppet Theatre. The art of water puppetry is an ancient one first developed by rice farmers in their padi fields when they wanted some entertainment. They used bamboo poles under the water to control colorful wooden puppets.
This stage show utilized a water covered stage, with the puppeteers behind a curtain controlling the bamboo poles that controlled the wooden puppets in the water. A live band of musicians played the accompanying music for the show. If you ever visit Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, make sure that you attend one of these water puppet theatre performances.
Many thanks to Rolf E. Holmgren from Ditt Internet resemagazine http://www.reserevyn.net/for providing this video, which he has titled "ITE HCMC 2012 - Rong Vang Water Puppet Theatre" and is about ten minutes long.
