Last year the Newcastle Metropolitan Players presented "The Boy From Oz" at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle to public and critical acclaim. This year they are presenting everybody's favourite "Grease". Set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School, Grease follows the story of Danny, Sandy, The Pink Ladies and The Burger Palace Boys as they navigate their way through adolescence and deal with social issues, love and friendship. Grease the musical premiered on Broadway in 1972 and played for 3,388 performances becoming the longest running musical at the time and has triumphed throughout the world ever since. In 1978 Grease went on to become a hugely successful film, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. This musical appeals to all ages and continues to attract each new generation as it comes through. There is something about that wonderful rock and roll music of the 50s. With songs like 'Summer Nights', 'Hopelessly Devoted To You', 'Greased Lightning', 'There Are Worse Things I Could Do', 'We Go Together', 'Beauty School Dropout' and 'You're The One That I Want'. “Grease” will be performed live on stage at the Civic Theatre, Hunter Street, Newcastle, Australia from 24 August -3 September 2011.
