The 2015 Festival is celebrating what would have been Elvis Presley's 80th birthday on January 8, with a carnival 'Roustabout' theme to mark the special milestone.
Member for Orange Andrew Gee said he looks forward to joining in the festivities when he attends in January. “The Parkes Elvis Festival is a colourful, entertaining highlight of the NSW Events Calendar and I encourage everyone to take advantage of the exciting program of free entertainment during the festival,” he said. “I’ll be putting in a float and we’ll be doing ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ with a band.”
On Thursday 8 January attendees can celebrate Elvis Presley’s 80th birthday at the free outdoor cinema in Cooke Park with a special screening of the 2015 theme movie, the 1964 carnival classic Roustabout.
Meanwhile Friday and Saturday afternoons will see competitors in the McDonald’s Rock‘n’Roll Dancing Competition take it out on The NRMA Cooke Park Main Stage for great prizes and trophies. Other events include free concerts in the park, further dance performances and Elvis and Priscilla Presley look-a-like competitions.
Now in its 23rd year, the Parkes Elvis Festival will run from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 January in Parkes.
