The most fun you can have in an opera house!

The Turk in Italy
Do you think comic opera is a contradiction in terms? You’re not alone. Director Simon Phillips thought so too. “I felt opera was about human emotion getting to a scale where it could not be expressed any way but song.”

But when he discovered the “unashamedly frivolous” delights of lighter operas, he changed his mind. Lucky for us, because the acclaimed director has a magic touch with comic farce, and his slapstick-filled The Turk in Italy is just about as much fun as you can have in an opera house. It opens next week!

Meanwhile, you can experience the “gripping theatre ” of Rigoletto or get a glimpse at the future of opera at Aida. In Verdi’s masterpiece, life is always on the line, and individual love stories reverberate through history. Big emotions require big music, and Aida more than delivers.
