BLUES ON BROADBEACH OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED

While all eyes are on the Gold Coast on the cusp of the Commonwealth Games, more than 160,000 visitors will converge on the stunning Broadbeach precinct this week. The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival kicks off on Thursday, and the final plans are in place to host one of Australia’s largest free music festivals.

At a VIP event hosted by The Star Gold Coast last night, the CEO of Broadbeach Alliance Jan McCormick, along with Deputy Mayor Donna Gates, officially launched the Festival. McCormick said, “The launch last night was a fantastic taste of what’s to come. Our guest performer Lachy Doley absolutely stunned our invited guests and made us even more excited about presenting this year’s Festival, with all of the action kicking off on Thursday.”

The event boasts a huge line-up of almost 70 local and international artists including UK superstar Bonnie Tyler, Ian Moss, Slim Jim Phantom, Kevin Borich, Harts and the list goes on.

An extra special one-off headline event for patrons to enjoy will be the Are You Experienced 50th Anniversary Concert, on the Surf Parade Stage at 8.45pm on Sat May 20. The super group performance will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s famous album, with renditions of the albums track list performed by Australian blues legends Kevin Borich, Ray Beadle, The Screaming Jets’ Jimi Hocking as well as Hammond monster Lachy Doley and the Stratocaster slinging Harts.

The concept of the Hendrix show came together when Festival Director Mark Duckworth approached Jimi Hendrix fan and band leader Phil Ceberano to take on the role of Musical Director for the project. "I'm so excited to be part of this wonderful celebration and homage to one of my guitar heroes," said Ceberano. "This album was the soundtrack to such a vibrant era of change, revolution and creativity. It will be mind blowing recreating the tones and vibes of this icon."

Hosted by Gold Coast musician Nick Stewart (George/White Russians) and complete with psychedelic visuals and lighting, this performance is set to blow away Hendrix fans of all ages.
