VIVID SYDNEY 2017: BIGGER, BOLDER, BRIGHTER AND A DEBUT FOR BARANGAROO

Sydney’s newest harbourside precinct Barangaroo will make its Vivid Sydney debut in 2017, as part of a stellar festival program announced by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall.

“Vivid Sydney returns with its biggest program ever, shining brightly for the first time at Barangaroo, with an illuminated trail of installations weaving through laneways and past the waterfront at the new business district,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“It’s great that in 2017, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas shines its attention on Sydney’s newest CBD precinct, Barangaroo.”

Barangaroo will be joined by festival favourites the Vivid Light Walk, as well as displays at Chatswood, Martin Place, Darling Harbour, Taronga Zoo, plus an expanded trail through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Vivid Sydney will illuminate the city for 23 spectacular nights, attracting visitors from across the world and delivering a boost to the NSW economy.

In 2016 a record 2.31 million people attended Vivid Sydney, delivering $110 million in visitor spend to the State’s economy.

Mr Marshall said, “The Sails of the Sydney Opera House will again be illuminated, this year with a spectacular projection of imaginary creatures inspired by insects, plants and the ocean underworld, that will captivate locals and visitors from around the world.”

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer and Vivid Sydney Executive Producer Sandra Chipchase said, “In addition to the light displays, this year’s festival features a diverse line up of music, including performances by trailblazing UK electronic dance outfit Goldfrapp, folk-rock masters Fleet Foxes, indie rock band Dappled Cities, Grammy Award-winning Jazz singer Dianne Reeves, plus the Ideas program is headlined by American contemporary artist, Shepard Fairey. It is another must-see event.”

Vivid Sydney is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, and is the largest event in Australia.

Vivid Sydney returns from 26 May to 17 June, 2017. For more information visit vividsydney.com.
