Auckland Museum-Tamaki Paenga Hira

Explore the rich and varied stories of Chinese New Zealanders in Being Chinese in Aotearoa: A photographic journey.

This new exhibition celebrating 175 years of Chinese life in New Zealand is launching in February during the hugely popular Lantern Festival in Auckland Domain. Through close to 100 compelling and rarely seen photographs, you can follow the story from the first settlers in 1842 to new migrants in the 2000s, from pioneering goldminers and merchants to architects and entrepreneurs.

Visit Auckland Museum after hours during the Lantern Festival as we stay open until 9pm and share in the diverse cultures that make up Tamaki Makaurau.

Open daily from 10 February, 10am-9pm 11-12 February and 10am-5pm 13 February onwards.
