50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast Program

The 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast will be officially commemorated on August 1 2017.

In the 50th Anniversary year we plan to celebrate our identity, engage our community and showcase our history and future. In this exciting milestone year we’ll also celebrate and commemorate the people that have shaped and defined the Sunshine Coast.

Calendar of Events

Council has planned celebrations throughout 2017 to mark this historic occasion. There is a calendar of events and activities happening throughout the year that will be continually updated, so remember to check back.

Fond Memories

Throughout 2017 we invite our community to share their ‘Fond Memories’ of the Sunshine Coast. The Memory Mobile will be moving around the Sunshine Coast, dates and locations will be available on the calendar of events and activities, which will be continually updated. Or feel free to share your favourite memories, photos, recollections and reminisces via email fifty@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au. Selected memories will be shared on Council's website and Facebook page.

50th Anniversary Fund

The 50th Anniversary Fund is a new, one-off Community Grants program for new and existing non-council events, projects, programs. It has been developed especially for the 50th anniversary year. Applications for the second round of the Grants will open Monday 6 March 2017 and close Friday 19 May 2017.

Heritage Calendar

Photography enthusiasts were invited to dig out their photo albums and cardboard boxes in search of their favourite 1960s and 1970s photo of the Sunshine Coast for the chance to be featured in the Still Shining – Celebrating 50 Years 2017 heritage calendar.
