Travel to Spiritual Heart of Australia Buoyant

Ayers Rock Resort continues to soar to new heights with a series of successes, from Royal visits by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the launch of new products and tours, major investment into infrastructure and increased air capacity – all signs that travel to the spiritual heart of Australia is experiencing a resurgence.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose to visit Uluru in April, meeting with Indigenous staff as well as trainees and graduates of the National Indigenous Training Academy. The Royal Couple enjoyed a beautiful sunset over Uluru, and their visit has shone a spotlight on the destination, with extensive domestic and international media attention.

New direct flights from Melbourne four times a week by Jetstar and an increase in their direct Sydney-Ayers Rock service from four times a week to daily has increased air capacity dramatically. The new Jetstar flights, which commence on 28 June, join the daily Virgin direct service from Sydney and daily Qantas flights via Alice Springs.

“We understand the imperative for comprehensive air capacity and this increase comes at a great time in the development of the destination. We will continue to work with air partners to explore other opportunities going forward,” said Ray Stone, Voyages Executive General Manager Sales, Marketing and Distribution.

The Camels to Sounds of Silence tour, introduced earlier this year, further enhances the already popular award-winning Sounds of Silence experience. An added optional extra to be enjoyed prior to the commencement of the regular Sounds of Silence dining experience, guests enjoy a unique start to their evening and arrive in time to enjoy sunset drinks and canapés on the dune top.

This year, Ayers Rock Resort introduced a major events program that is proving to be a successful draw card and offers guests another element to their stay. The program kicked off in April with the inaugural Tjungu Festival which showcased Indigenous excellence in fields as diverse as fashion, footy, food and art. A great success, next year's Tjungu Festival is planned for 23-26 April 2015. Other events include the Outback Fest in May, the Australian Outback Marathon in July and an Astronomy weekend from 22-24 August 2014.
