Guest Speaker Series Continues at Skal Sydney With John King OAM, Chairman of ATEC

Skal International Sydney is delighted to announce John King OAM, Chairman, Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) as our guest speaker for the SKAL International Sydney Networking Lunch Meeting on Wednesday 11 June, 12 noon at the Grace Hotel Sydney speaking about ATEC and Export Tourism – 'The New Imperative'.

John King, who is based in Sydney, has a 40 year background in highly successful and widely recognised international tourism marketing and management, including operating his own international tourism consulting company for 19 years. He has held a number of senior positions with International tourism organizations. John was presented with the 2010 Pacific Asia Travel Association Award of Merit and is an Honorary Fellow of Southern Cross University in recognition of his contribution to tourism.

He is currently Chairman of Southern Travel Holdings, a Trustee of the Travel Compensation Fund (Australia) and a member of the Boards of Management of Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park and Lord Howe Island. He is also a member of the Australian Advisory Board of the Beijing based China Ready and Accredited and the Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association.

In 2007 he was appointed Independent Chairman of the Australian Tourism Export Council, the primary industry body for the Australian inbound tourism industry, a position he still holds. He was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Visitor Economy Taskforce to develop a joint industry/government plan in 2012 to double revenue from tourism for the New South Wales Government. John was also recognised for his services to Australian tourism with an Order of Australia medal in the 2011 Australia Day honours list.
