Fraser Coast - Where Nature Comes Alive

The world's most unique island, the start of the Great Barrier Reef, and outstanding heritage combine to create an irresistible nature-based playground on Queensland's Fraser Coast.

A must do for the bucket list is World-Heritage listed Fraser Island with its towering, untouched ancient rainforests, pristine freshwater lakes and coloured sands.

Another unbeatable experience is Lady Elliot Island. A short scenic flight will take you to the island and the start of the Great Barrier Reef where you can step off the beach into a magical world of unrivalled coral and marine life and snorkel alongside giant manta rays and turtles.

With some of the most protected waters along the Queensland coastline and some of its most stunning beaches, Hervey Bay is another Fraser Coast jewel. It's a water lover's paradise with year round swimming, diving, sailing, water sports and fishing.

Cruise the Bay's calm, crystal clear waters and take an eco-tour to see coral, dugongs, dolphins, turtles and other marine life.

Stroll along its 14km Esplanade and enjoy one of the many cosmopolitan and alfresco cafes where you can dine on scrumptious local seafood, including Hervey Bay's famous scallops and prawns.

Follow the region's spectacular coastline and discover the diverse beauty of the Great Sandy Strait where charming coastal villages are complimented by a stunning coastline of pristine, white sandy beaches stretching from Woodgate to Rainbow Beach.

Maryborough is one of Queensland's oldest cities where 19th century guides spin yarns of slave traders and new settlers, steam trains chug through riverside parks and a time cannon is fired on city streets.

Once one of Australia's largest and busiest ports in the lead up to Federation, the city's beautifully preserved colonial streets are filled with living history and magnificent heritage architecture.

Explore an impressive collection of museums and art galleries, snag a bargain at its famous weekly market or go on one of Maryborough quirky tours and trails, including a self-guided Historic Pubs Trail to discover the bottled history of the city's famed, heritage listed hotels.

The splendour of the Fraser Coast is not only confined to the coast, with its hinterland filled with national parks, native woodlands, heath and dense rainforest and the beautiful Mary River.

Take a country drive to the charming rural town of Tiaro, with its historic country pubs, and Bauple, the ancestral home of the macadamia nut.
