TOURISM PORT DOUGLAS AND DAINTREE APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Tara Bennett
The directors of Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree (TPDD) are pleased to announce Tara Bennett will be the organisation’s new executive officer.

TPDD chairman Tony Baker praised Ms Bennett’s skills, saying she was perfectly poised to lead the destination into the many exciting opportunities ahead.

“Tara has a comprehensive understanding of the positioning and potential of the region and has earned the respect and esteem of our key stakeholders and members.

“These accomplishments coupled with her creativity, business acumen and her unwavering passion for the destination make her a force to be reckoned with.”

Ms Bennett has worked for TPDD since 2007, most recently in the role of business development executive, where she led the highly regarded Port Douglas Incentives and Port Douglas Wedding Professionals groups and established her reputation throughout the organisation and with her peers for excellence and integrity.

She previously worked in other hospitality service and management roles, and achieved a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Deakin University and a Master of Tourism (ecotourism) degree from James Cook University.

Ms Bennett is delighted to take on the leadership at TPDD during this auspicious time in the development of regional tourism.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for me, and I am looking forward to working with the local tourism industry and our key partners to take TPDD and the destination to the next level.”

“The Australian Tourism Exchange in Cairns next month will provide the perfect setting to meet with the world’s travel trade, to re-engage our traditional markets and to develop ties with emerging markets.”

Ms Bennett will begin a hand over on May 5, with TPDD’s outgoing executive officer Doug Ryan. She will officially take over the reins on May 28. To ensure a smooth handover period Doug will continue to support Tara until June 30.

TPDD will begin recruiting for Tara’s replacement in the coming weeks.
