MANCHESTER UNITED TOUCH DOWN IN SYDNEY

NSW Acting Premier Andrew Stoner has welcomed the arrival of English Premiership League side Manchester United to Sydney.

“I’m delighted to welcome one of the most successful football teams in the world, Manchester United, to Sydney,” Mr Stoner said.

“It’s been 14 years since Manchester United visited Australian shores and I join the entire Australian football community in expressing my delight at their arrival in Sydney."

Manchester United will play the A-League All Stars at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, 20 July. The All Stars will represent the best of the Hyundai A-League with the players and coaching staff preselected by fans.

“The demand for tickets has been extremely high and the match sold out in record time to fans, including those members of the football family," Mr Stoner said.

“The NSW Government secured Manchester United’s visit exclusively for Sydney, as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening Australia’s premier Events Calendar and ensuring that NSW remains number one."

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley said during the visit there would be an opportunity to witness Manchester United in training on Friday evening, 19th July, at Allianz Stadium.

"And the day before, there will be another opportunity to hear first-hand from Team Manager, David Moyes speaking about his transition to the world famous club," Mr Annesley said.

“The Manchester United vs A-League All Stars match is part of a fantastic line-up of sporting events in Sydney and NSW, including: three British and Irish Lions tour matches and the annual Bledisloe Cup Test on August 17, two State of Origin matches and the Opening Series of Major League Baseball in 2014.”

Manchester United are the most successful English football club in history, having won 20 Premier League titles, 11 FA Cups and three European Cups.
