Frank Yamma - Music fior Cairns Festival

Cairns Festival will kick off its 2012 season with a multi-dimensional program spanning music, art, dance, culture, comedy and entertainment in a free and ticketed program that rolls out from Friday 17 August until Sunday, 2 September

One of the many highlights of the Carns Festival is the concet by Frank Yamma at the Cairns Centre of Contemporary Arts on Wednesday, 29 August, 2012.

Frank Yamma, an indigenous singer/songwriter, is a traditional Pitjantjatjara man from Australia's central desert and lives in Alice Springs. He is considered a legend in Central Australia and he is regarded by many as one of Australia’s most important songwriters.

Frank Yamma speaks five languages and is one of Australia's most talented contemporary performers, He is exceptional guitarist who has an incredible voice - rich, deep and resonant.

When Frank sings about standing on a sand dune watching over the landscape, it is if you are standing with him. When he sings about the plight of Aboriginal children born into a world of chaos and alcohol, Frank wrenches the heart.

Reviews
‘...a gutsy and often pained set of ballads that veer between folk-pop and country.’ Robyn Denselow, The Guardian (UK)
‘Yamma's rich, powerful voice resonates and is as spiritually charged as any of the songs on Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu's solo CD or Archie Roach's albums.’ Tony Hillier, The Australian
‘... one of Australia's most sought after indigenous artists.’ Jane Cornwall, Songlines/BBC3 – 5 Star Review
‘Evocative and occasionally heart-wrenching…’ Seth Jordan, Limelight
