Enjoy the Great Outdoors on Cycling and Walking Tour Adventures in Korea

Jamsil Han River Pa
Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) is encouraging visitors to the country to get back to nature and enjoy the great outdoors.  Two new cycling and walking trails have been recently introduced for adventurous visitors to experience the beauty of nature in Korea either by bicycle or on foot.

The KTO CEO Charm Lee took on the cycling route on his recent holidays to set an example to Koreans and visitors to the country how refreshing and enjoyable this kind of holiday experience can be.

The bicycle route covered stretches from Jamsil Han River Park in the eastern district of Seoul, to major natural attractions in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces such as Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong (home of the Australian War Memorial in Korea), Chuncheon and Yangpyeong.

Some of the attractions along the way include Nami Island, Jara Island, Animation Museum in Chuncheon, Vietnam War Memorial Hall, the literature village of the novelist Kim You-jeong and the beautiful lotus garden Semiwon.

KTO plan to make the week-long program as a regular package for visitors at an approximate cost of 300,000 won (approx. $300) including meals, tourist attractions and accommodation,

If you are more interested in walking than cycling, then hiking trails at national parks offer an adventurous experience. The newly-developed Jiri Mountain hiking trail stretches about 300 kilometers, divided into 16 sections.

The KTO suggests setting up a base camp in Namwon, North Gyeongsang Province and trying three sections each day ― Jucheon to Unbong (14.3 km), Unbong to Inwol (9.4 km) and Inwol to Geumgye (19.3 km).

From Seoul, there is a KTX train from Yongsan Station to Namwon Station, which takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.   The trails take from four to eight hours depending on how fast you walk. Each trail is clearly marked with signposts or arrows.

The duration of the walking tour can vary depending on the number of trail routes you take, but taking three trails plus visiting some tourist attractions in Namwon will take up to six full days.
